Low oil pressure

My 76 350 began showing low oil pressure. only 64000 original miles. when its cold it shows a solid 40 psi. as it warms up pressure starts to drop back.drops back to sometimes 20 or less.engine runs fine. doesnt knock or clink or clank? i'm thinking a bad sending unit???? Opinions appreciated.

If you have a known good mechanical gauge laying around, plug it in and see what you get.

Is the 20psi at idle or is that all it will do?
