How can I lower the front end of a 1951 Chevrolet pick-up and still keep the straight axle?I would like to lower it 3 to 4 inches. Is this possible? any info would be appreciated.
Tough to get that low without a dropped axle. Mor Drop in Oakland has been doing it the old way for decades, heating and stretching your axle. They will do a 3 1/2" drop in an old Ford axle for $275. Figure shipping two ways on top of that. Probably near the same cost for one like yours. Call them @ 949-279-8158.
Hey Joe,where did you find that mono leaf spring for your dad's 48?I would be interested in contacting the company.Do they make a dropped spindle for these year Chevy trucks? Thanks Stan
Hey Willys, thanks for the info on More drop.I will have to contact them. But I'm thinking the shipping from Illinois to California and back would be a killer!
I bought the mono leaf spring for my Dad's 48 GMC from a Company in San Dimas CA. I couldn't find the receipt to get the name again but this company sells the same spring. http://www.classicperform.com/4754chevtrk.html#springs
Joe,thanks for the info. That is an excellent site,I think I will go with the mono-leaf spring. It will give it a 3 inch drop, which is about where I want to be.Thanks again,Stan
