I'm in the middle of an LS swap restomod for my 66 GOAT and having interference issues with the "muscle car" oil pan the engine builder installed. It hits the front (stock) frame cross member and steering linkage. I was steered toward a Mast Motor Sports 409-069 cast alum pan which was supposed to be designed specifically for 64-72 GM A Body LS swaps. If the Mast pane doesn't work, I'll have to buy a steel pan and modify it as needed to compensate for any internal or external interferences.

In speaking with one of the techs at Mast who had a hand in the design, he shared that the test car for the pan design was actually his son's 69 Chevelle. He has no external interference issues in the areas that I have trouble which is promising but is the 66 GTO frame and steering linkage similar enough to the 69 Chevelle for me to expect their pan to solve my problems? The engine I'm installing is a 4.125 LS3 stroker with a full windage tray (4L80 trans). Internally, the pan should work because the builder has used this engine, windage tray and pan combo many times without issues. The problem seems to lie in how much alike the front frame cross member and steering linkage is between the 66 GTO and 69 Chevelle. Does anyone know how the two compare?

64-67 frames are pretty much the same, cept convertible
68 up are 3 inches longer, not sure where the change is
Could be part of the problem
Thanks for the reply LATECH. I was under the impression any increase in length would only affect the rear but I'm no expert and don't know that for a fact.
The interference with the current pan has nothing to do with the 69 frame. It's the potential replacement pan that may or may not interfere. I'm hoping someone here can clarify
if the pan that works in the 69 Chevelle would offer the same clearance with the 66 GTO.

i am not sure about it, but you are likely correct about the back end of the frame being the part that was lengthened
Of course it could still mean that the firewall and everything else is shifted also
I will look around a bit to see if I can come up with something

Click on below for oil pan dimensions. Pick what works for you. Commonly people use an F Body oil pan from a Camaro or Firebird. Don't forget to get the mating pick up tube.

Thanks for posting Austin. I'm truly grateful for your time and effort but I've researched pans (that should fit) to death and found out the hard way they don't necessarily fit without interference. The manufacturers have poor data and won't promise anything. They'll accept a return if they don't work but I need to avoid the time and expense of trying and returning pan after pan until one doesn't interfere.

What I really need is to find someone who knows how a stock 69 Chevelle front frame section and steering linkage compares to that of a 66 GTO or someone who has a 66 GTO with a stock frame and steering linkage using a 4.125 - 4.25" LS stroker that can tell me what pan they used,
