When I change gear oil in LSD, do I still have to use additive/modifier. I'm going to use synthetic gear oil and its already formulated for LSD differentials.
Does it still need to have LSD additive?

Test drive the car after you change the oil. If it pops and jerks when you turn tight corners then you need to put in the additive. If it doesn't then leave it out. Too much additive will cause the clutches to slip when you don't want them to.

No, the additive makes the clutches slip easier when turning corners. If you leave the additive out the clutches will pop and grab when trying to turn. The additive makes them slip smoother to eliminate the popping and jerking when turning. The less additive you use the better the clutches will lock up. If you leave the additive out completely the clutches will lock up better for drag racing. You should only use as much of the additive as you need to make the clutches work smoothly on the street.

Is this for a Sure Grip in your Charger? There's usually not much of a problem for the cone type (Borg Warner Spin Resistant) but the plate type (Power Lock), it will probably benefit better with the additive. The BW will usually let you know if it needs it when you back out of your driveway. It generally won't make any noise but you will feel it pop loose then catch and pop loose etc. The synthetic is usually a bit slicker than regular rear end lube so it may not require it but if it does, it's not hard to add to it so long as you don't fill it to it's running out.....which you are not really supposed to do anyways.
