is there any problem with drilling the side of my master cylinder at the top and tapping it for let say 1/8 pipe thread on the side and removing some of the center of the rubber gasket and run the lines from the threaded fitting to a remote reservoir. ED

An even cleaner solution would be to use a modern aluminum M/C with the plastic reservoir. Remove the plastic reservoir, tap the two fill holes in the M/C casting for NPT, and go from there.

Taping master cylinder for lines

Has anyone drilled and taped the case of a cast master cylinder for lines from a remote fill reservoir? How did that work? I have clearance issues for an after market mc cover.

As I just posted on another thread on this subject. :D

"This is my question, why do you need a remote fill? If your brake system is in good condition you don't need to be checking it all the time. If you have to pull a couple of screws up from the threshold moulding and lift the carpet to remove a little cover on the floor to add fluid when you do the brakes on your car, isn't that easy enough?

I have the master under the floor on my daily driver, yes it is kind of a pain to get to it but so is pulling off the wheel and front hub and drums checking the condition of the shoes. Cars had them under the floor along with the battery for years and years, is it ideal, no, but it isn't that big of a deal either.

Just my take on it.

i added a remote reservoir when i had a line leak and didn't know it until i lost my brakes on the 11 power tour
it's nice to be able to check fluid level when i open the hood
i've had an underfloor mc on 58-59 trucks since the 70s never had a problem until i upgraded my brakes, and had carpet glued down over the mc cover.
go figure :D

back to his question, i don't see a problem with drilling the mc if it's done right.
you'd need a leak proof mc cover and the right lines.

don't like the reservoir hanging on my shaved firewall, but here it is

Real clean firewall, ogre. Ha mine looks like swiss cheese from the previous heater hack and factory holes over the years. No plan for a frame-off in the near future but they will get filled at some point.
