i appreciate all feed back and pics. thanks in advance
I take it that this is some sort of a "rat rod"?
Two ways to handle this. The first is to go to "Pick-N-Pull" or some place like it and find an 80's car to use the parts. I think there is a clevis shaft that is bolted to the frame and the transmission on the drivers side. This changes the direction of the shaft coming from the column down to the shifting shaft. There is also an odd looking piece of metal that connects to the clevis shaft and the shifting shaft. So when you pull down on the gear lever in the car it will twist the shifting shaft. All of these parts will be on the wrecked vehicle you would just need to bend the long rod leading from the column down to the clevis shaft so as to be able to clear headers, bell-housing, motor mounts etc.
The second way is to bend your own 5/16th or 3/8th round bar stock to fit. Then make the clevis shaft and attaching bracket from pipe and band iron welded together. You will need to have the funny shaped metal that attaches to the transmission shifting shaft.
