I[m about to buy a new manifold and the thing is i can buy a HOLLEY STRIP DOMINATOR 300 . 25 for about 100$ and the thing is they don't have the water ports in the back of the manifold by the distrib does this make a big different or not

second i can get the edelbrock super victor for alto more money but it does have the taping to use the water jacket and want to know if this is worth the money just for the water jacket or not


the engine is sbc 383 aluminum heads 190 carb Holley avenger 670 roller cam and rockers so any info on what to buy is most helpful thanks guys....

i haven't got the cam back from machine shop but it's going to be like 274 comp cam or some where around there and the car is a buick 78 buick regal street and 6 months out of the year it's going on the strip once a month in our little town

So, 6 months out of the year, it's a 100% street car and the other 6 months out of the year it's 10% strip and 90% street. Does that just about sum it up?
You'll be bracket racing, so your E.T. and trap speed won't matter. Consistency is the most important thing in bracket racing.

What I'm leading up to here is your choice of intake manifolds.
The operating range on the Holley 300-25 is 4,500 to 7,600 rpm's.
The operating range on the Edelbrock Super Victor is 3,500 to 8,000 rpm's.

The operating range on a 274 cam is roughly 1,800 to 6,000 and the motor needs matching parts. Use an Edelbrock Performer RPM. Do not use the Air Gap model if you get some cold weather where you live.

Building a motor is all about using parts that complement each other in the same range of rpm's. The RPM makes power from 1,500 to 6,500, about the same as the cam.

This sums it up very well, IMO.

With that cam, vehicle and intended use, an open plenum intake- ANY of them- will not work anywhere near as well as even a stock intake, let alone the RPM. The non air gap is my preference for a street driven car like yours, and doubly so if the temps get low where you live.
