Aaaaa.. loosening valve stem seals by adding it to gas? No that is not true, no gasoline ever touches any of the valve seals. Why would you even ask that if you are already dumping it in the carb?
I was wonderng about that water trick... wouldn't the carbon clog the cats? In cars w/out cats, how much water do ya put in? I've heard that from a spray bottle (mist) it doesn't do any good, but if ya put more in you get hydrolock. tranny fluid, that's added to gasoline, right?Pony said:In the 60s up to the early 70s high performance engine ran 10:1 to 11:1 compression ratios, fairly hot cams, fair ignition, big carbs and had a problem "loading Up" with carbon from unburned gas. The carbon build up on the pistons created hot spots and resulted in pre ignition. Tricks at the time to get rid of this type of build up ranged from water, marvel mystery oil and transmission fluid, I've used them all and they all worked. That was then this is now! We've come a long way with EFI, electronic ignition, computer controled engines, aditives to control carbon and slugde build up, ect. Emission engines don't have the same problems, catalyitc converters are not designed to deal with that process and as Bow Tie said a well tuned engine and over the counter additives should be all you need.
