marvel mystery oil?

ok i dont know if this was posted before but i couldnt find it.
i used this stuff in my oil and gas and even put some in my carb. well i heard that even though it says its ok to put in the gas, it can loosen the valve seals so dont do it. is this true? has anyone tryed this stuff?
when i put it in my carb i poured a little at a time. it brought the idle up and then i would rev it after like a 1/2 cup. it would smoke bad. so i took it for a drive after i put about a cup in a half in the carb and rest in the oil. it smoked alot for about 15 mins but then stoped. and it only smoked while under lots of load like WOT. 55mph. is this stuff not good to put in the carb even tho it says its ok? i also did the water in carburetor trick like a day before i used the oil. i know my plugs are cleaner from it so im guessing it cleaned the carbon off the pistons.

Aaaaa.. loosening valve stem seals by adding it to gas? No that is not true, no gasoline ever touches any of the valve seals. Why would you even ask that if you are already dumping it in the carb?
i was just woundering

some one on another board told me something that it is bad to add any kind of oil to the gas/in the carb. even if it says it is safe. because it is good way to loosen the seals. im not sure what seals he was talking about but i was thinking the valves?

maybe i should have added this thread

the person that sayed it says it will unset the rings. its just alittle down from the begining.
ANOTHER BOARD? WTH???:spank:

MMO is the only thing i'd feel safe using per its instructions. additive wise. ;)

fbody.... might have known.....
Brian, I read a few of the most stupid post on that other site where you were. Man I can't believe what they were telling you to do.The ONLY thing that should be introduced into a carb is GASOLINE and an occasional carb/injector cleaner into the FUEL TANK along with a FILL UP. A container of the cleaner will treat a tank of fuel and will clean as you drive.

If your engine bogs at a relatively high RPM's there is another possibility. Oil in the carb sends it right down the exhaust pipe where it enters the catalytic converter and reacts with the catalysts which causes it to break down and clog the muffler. The more you run the engine the more the particles continue to fill the muffler until it is completely clogged at which point the engine will not run at all. Treatment: A new exhaust system.

As for the carbon in the cylinders, tune the engine. A well adjusted carb on a finely tuned engine should be all you need.

Good luck to you. I hope this is of some help to you.

Al
thank you

at the end of my post at that other site i state that i found the problem and fixed it. the problem was a spark plug wire that was cracked bad enough for me to see the cotton in it, i replaced it with another wire and its fixed i have my power back. and as for my exhaust getting messed up, that wont happen right now. because i only have an exhaust manifold and y pipes on,no cat no muffler. im getting some headers in about a week or so then some collector pipes and leaving it like that.
i have to take emissions soon so i will put my cat back on and make some adjustments and hope i pass. if not i dont know what im going to do.maybe look for a way around it, maybe have my license suspended and sell the car to get it unsespended. i dont know.
I found Marvel Mystery oil to actually do something helpful when put into the carb. It has always been a successful way (at least in my limited experience) to bring back gas fouled plugs. While the engine is running I would pour a little in, wait a few secs, a little more, wait a little bit again, and then pour until it drown the engine out. Give it a minute and fire it up. It will smoke out the exhaust for a few mins but always found it to work. I suppose it might be more work then just changing a damn plug but when you dont know what plug it is, I found it to be a good temporary fix without any hazardous side effects.
Pour the water down the carb.......

The old water in the carb trick is as old as the hills and it works for removing every trace of carbon off your valves, combustion chamber and the top of your piston too. Just because YOU/bow tie, haven't tried it or didn't invent the idea dosn't mean it dosn't work don't knock what you don't know!.. This is an excellent way to remove all the carbon from inside your engine without having to go in and remove it by hand, no disassembly required!! Don't know about these new cars with a cat...I don't mess with them, I'm talking old rods...not this new junk!!

What is it about water??? I've never heard of putting water in the engine other than for hydrogen assist. The marvel stuff works good though
In the 60s up to the early 70s high performance engine ran 10:1 to 11:1 compression ratios, fairly hot cams, fair ignition, big carbs and had a problem "loading Up" with carbon from unburned gas. The carbon build up on the pistons created hot spots and resulted in pre ignition. Tricks at the time to get rid of this type of build up ranged from water, marvel mystery oil and transmission fluid, I've used them all and they all worked. That was then this is now! We've come a long way with EFI, electronic ignition, computer controled engines, aditives to control carbon and slugde build up, ect. Emission engines don't have the same problems, catalyitc converters are not designed to deal with that process and as Bow Tie said a well tuned engine and over the counter additives should be all you need.

I was wonderng about that water trick... wouldn't the carbon clog the cats? In cars w/out cats, how much water do ya put in? I've heard that from a spray bottle (mist) it doesn't do any good, but if ya put more in you get hydrolock. tranny fluid, that's added to gasoline, right?
all of the cures?? were pored down the carb with the engine at around 2,00-3,00 rpms. One hand on the throttle shaft and the bottle in the other. It made a large smoke cloud (EPA) and if you pored too much in you could realy screw things up! The whole mess just isn't necessary these days. By the way one of the mechanics at a shop I worked at used to spray carb cleaner down carbs when the engines were running to clean carbon out. (I still don't think that worked) But anyway one day he accidently grabbed a can of brake disk cleaner and sprayed it down a carb. It made phosgene gas. It's a nasty stuff and liked to have killed us all before we got out of the garage. We took his spray cans away from him. Point IS: gas and air go down the carb.. unless you really know what you'r doing, putting anything else down the Carb/air intake can Be dangerous!
