While thumbing through a Summit catalog recently, I noticed that the MSD 6A box is compatible with GM HEI ignitions. How does this work? Does it provide a double spark as when used with one of thier distributors? Is there any real benefit to using it with a stock HEI? Can the electronic tach be retained?

works exactly the same as with the msd distributor, the magnetic pickup in the hei triggers it.

They work great IMHO Just go to their website and you will find all their wiring diagrams :thumbup:

With the MSD box the only thing the distributor does is fires (signals) the box. So it really don't matter what distributor is hooked to it (as long as it's in excellent condition).

The MSD box fires 3 sparks at idle, then drops to 2 and then to 1 as the rpm increases.
