Does it roll the sidewall of his tires when he turns?
thanks cboy.....
we are doing a restore on 70' Boss429......saved the pic' and gona email it to the car owner: "Hey Tom, just to let you know we are having a little bit of difficulty......fitting the motor back into the car"
Yeesh! All that's missing is the big green monster sticking out of a hole in the roof, holding onto a shifter that's sticking up over his head, and 7 foot tall flames coming out of zoomie pipes just in front of the rear wheel wells.

Several thoughts passed through my mind as I read the story - such as:

If a reliable supply of these engines is ever found, the prospects are frightening. I mean, can you imagine seeing that 1100 cubic inch engine powering a t-bucket?

For the ultimate street sleeper, drop one into the back of a '93 Dodge Caravan (the kind with the fake wood paneling on the sides,) mating it up to an Olds Toronado transaxle and moving the fuel tank under the hood. Keep the Caravan looking stock on the outside, including steel wheels and hubcaps, then tint the rear windows so nobody can see inside. Add a "Mom's Taxi" bumper sticker and go hunting for ricers...

Imagine going to your friendly local Auto Zone and asking the just-out-of-high-schooler behind the counter for a set of spark plugs for it:

You: "I need a set of Champion spark plugs for a Sherman Tank with an 1100 cubic inch V-8..."

He/She: "Does it have air conditioning...?"

Another thought was that CBoy should build his next scratch-built project around one of these engines. Hey, if anyone could pull it off, you could CBoy.
And you'd make it look good too.

I must say, however, that every diehard hotrodder should be saying, "I WANT TO BUILD ONE TOO!" right now...

What kind of springs does the front end have? Lmao :D
Looks great, being an old tanker myself I have a natural attraction to anything tank. I have seen several of these aluminum wonders, which by the way was not the most popular engine for the tank, for sale recently as old war stock starts to become available. If you must have one for your project, take a look at several of the military sites and you are bound to find one.
I wonder how much power it will make when finished. It would have to make way more than the stock 500hp to make it worth the weight. 1000 tq sounds fun though!

Yeah they said it can put out quite a bit more with nearly stock parts. I wonder what that number is?

God, I wonder what that thing sounds like?!

Truly a wild thing to see. Looks goofy as hell but I can't help but grin at the thought of that monster firing up.
I will have to wait a few minutes before I can stand up after looking at those pics.!  :embarrass

These engines were originally built by Ford in WWII as V12 airplane engines, but the military really needed a good tank engine at the time. Ford responded by chopping off 4 cylinders off, and adding an 180 degree crank, so was born the GAA tank engine. The modified heads on my engine were spares for a GAA powered tractor that won the nationals back in the eighties. It made 3600 HP using twin turbos, 34 pounds of boost and alcohol. The engine had a stock crank, stock rods, and stock cams in it.
The way it sits, naturally aspirated, in my Mustang it should be right at 900 HP @ 4200 rpm, and 1300 ft. lbs. of torque, with over 1000 ft. lbs available from 1600 to 4200 rpm.

I posted a video of it running here.

I will be running brake lines on the Mustang this weekend and hope to be making a maiden voyage with it soon. :D

BTW the big blower on the Camaro is off a EMD 2 cycle locomotive engine.

What type of tires will you be running?

Tominator opens window to Wells Fargo Investments.... :D

That sound clip is awesome!
I have 33x15x15 slicks on it right now. I will probably also buy a set of Sportman Pros the same size for street crusing.
I need to find a new set of 3.00 gears for the 9'' rear. It currently has 4.56's the big ole motor doesn't need to turn over 4800 rpm to get the job done.
