Hi i am new here but i was wondering if any one here can help me figure out whats wrong with my car.

My car is a 1989 plymouth acclaim lx v6 3.0l

I get a random stalling sometimes when driving around town when at low rpms. My mechanic thought it was a distrubtor, so we pulled one out of a rear totaled acclaim and that didnt work. Now it sometimes gives me no gas for a couple seconds then i get my gas back again. After that the check engine light stays on. This is now mixed in with the stalling.

He then checked the computer but the injection light was on indicating the computer was sending a signal to the injectors.

Next he put a gas gauge on the fuel line to see if it was the fuel pump. We left the car running for 3 hours and it stayed a constant 48 with no stalls.

We just can't figure out whats wrong with my car. I got it free from my uncle who maintanied it regularly. It only has 121,000 miles on it. I also have put about $600 into it. I am not about to give in to getting rid of it. I want to know whats wrong with it. Can anyone help?

Fuel regulator?

I'm not sure if the your acclaim is fuel injected or not, but if it is it could be the fuel regulator. Can you smell gas under the hood? and does it only kill when warming up? (runs fine when cold and/or fully warmed)

Something to check. If bad it is most likely leaking a little (starts out only at certain tempetures)

Good Luck!

The stalling is pretty random. Fully warmed or cold it doesnt matter. I try to warm the car up for 5 to 10 mins every morning. Yes it is fuel injected by the way. And after I turned the car when i got home today and lifted the hood i did smell gas. Ill mention it to my mechanic. My dad also suggested a leak in the fuel line possibly?

Have you checked the ignition? Sounds like a module failing or a poor ground somewhere. Has it had a tune up?
