I do not know of any site that would be comprehensive enough to take a novice through a 4L60-E step by step.

ATSG books are very concise. Haynes books are ok too. It's ok to read books. :D

Buy a book or find competent help on the 4L60e trans... many areas of the valve body need addressed/ checked during a rebuild besides replacing parts the DIY will do.

I build transmittins for a living... about 200 of the 4L60 trans a year among the other stuff.

Tricks...hmm. Those really have to be learned by the individual. My tricks may not work for you and vice versa.

A few:

Take detailed quality digital photos for reference. Note any and all witness marks on hard parts, especially pump vanes. Reinstall hairpins that secure solenoids from the bottom up when the VB is disassembled. Never wipe parts off with 'rags'. Clean and forced air dry only.

Tools, books and specialty tools lessen the need for 'tricks'

ATSG has an update handbook for 4L60E and 4L65E. Might consider this one as well as a basic teardown & reassembly book.

Intelligence is a good trick too.
