I'm a little embarassed to post this, but I need a little advice.

I'm painting a car. Happens to be an 02 Chrysler Sebring convertible. I've spent the last few months on the bodywork and prep. I'm painting it in single stage black, with the plan to follow it with clear .

It's in black now. I painted it my driveway and there's a bit of orange peel, some bugs, dust, imperfections, etc. I'm sanding out with 600 prior to clearing. I'm about halfway done.

I'm 45 and have a previous minor shoulder injury. Lucky for me, over the last few days, the sanding has started to irritate it. I thought I'd be done with the first sanding and starting the clear over labor day weekend - and I should have been, but with the shoulder pain, I can't get in more than an hour of sanding at a time without long rests in between. Tried to push myself and made it worse.

I'm hand sanding. I had planned to sand the car down, put on a couple of coats of clear. Sand it again, do the final clearing, then color sand it and buff. Suddenly, I went from maybe finishing this up in a few more weeks with plenty of drive time before the weather turns, to possibly not being able to get it done before winter at the rate I'm going.

Maybe a few days rest and some aspirin will get me through, but I'm looking for another solution in case that doesn't work out.

I've always sanded by hand for everything after the initial bodywork. It takes a bit longer, but I've always liked the control. I'm just a home hobbyist, so I do a car maybe every 5-10 years - it's never been worth it for me to trade the risks of power sanding and the expense for the tools for a little extra speed, and I've always had good results by hand.

So what I need to know is what options I have to make these several bouts of sanding I'm looking forward to a little easier on my shoulder, even if it's just a partial solution - like away from the body lines.

Sanding SS.........

Hi,i have shoulder problems also,what i do,is,i use a jitterbug,with 600 grip wet paper,and have a hose running,to keep it wet.it works out pretty good,IF,you have enough SS on the car.:)

you should have used single stage

painted my 62 ford galaxie the original wimbleton white 3 coats no clear .I waited a year due tobusiness travel personal issues.i wet sanded with 1500 mirka abralon discs on a 6 " astro pneumatic fine finish d/a sander.Keep the da running at half speed and mist the surface or pad with water .It came out great.Hand sanding wet is labor INTENSIVE!

I'm to the contrary, I like to hand sand wet with abrasive grit that just cuts to the bottom of the peel in a couple of passes, stop there and then step to the next finer. Then I might skip to the pneumatic jitterbug with 1500 and then 3000 grit.

Thanks guys. I picked up a cheapo jitterbug knockoff at HF. Going to give it a try this weekend to see how it goes. If I like it, I'll probably invest in a better quality one.
