My buddy has a 95' ford escort. He has been having a hard time figuring out what this problem is. The other day he started it up for me, the motor started fine, but after a few brief moments of running, the motor started to stall and then did. Every time he goes to restart the motor it starts fine. He also told me that he has to always give it a little bit of gas to prevent this from happening.

I looked a few things. first I thought it might be plug or two were fouled out, but all of them looked fine. He told me the injectors could be dirty. I was thinking that it might now be the fuel filter is clogged.

Sounds like one of two things. If the filters have never been changed, or not for a long time, that would be the first place to start (there is an in-line as well as one in the tank). Many times, lack of regular filter replacements can put additional load on the pumps causing them to fail. The easiest way to check the pump is to do a pressure check right off the line. If you check it first ( should be checked after the in-line filter is replaced or prior to the filter), you can determine whether it needs replaced prior to pulling the tank and installing the new tank sock and do then at the same time if neccesary.
