I have a 1989 Chevy P30 step van. The engine blew last week and I need to replace it. It has a 5.7 ltr (350) 4 bolt main. I have had a couple of people tell me that you have to remove the front end of the vehicle to change the engine. It looks to me like that aluminum body is all riveted together. I need a good step by step manual before I start into this. Any suggestions?

It depends on which body is on it. If its the Grumman body you can do it through the grille on the early ones. If you take the trans out you can take it out from inside the doghouse, but its really hard to get the cherry picker in there.

Need to replace the engine in my P30

The only markings on the body are Chevrolet logos. It is an all aluminum body. I agree it would be difficult to get a cherry picker inside ... but I suppose, not impossible.
