Hello I'm a new-be to this site :welcome: and I joined cause I need some information on a transmission my late husband has left me. It is a powerglide aluminum transmission and it measures 28 +/- length and 18+/- width with a number 3987988 followed by a circle with a "CM" at top and a 4 at bottom. I've been told by many of his friends that it is a two speed transmission mainly used for racing. Could someone give me more information about these powerglide transmissions and there value. in the mean time i will continue to research.

Thank You.
Sylvia.

Check this wiki.

Strong transmission but not highly desirable due to the high first gear. Not worth much unless a restorer wants one that matches his restoration. Value of 100 bucks (or less) where I Live.
Not much demand for them in stock form.
Can be modified heavily for some racing.

Post a picture or more of it. Things to look for are a bigger oil pan, smaller torque converter, separate bellhousing. Some had stickers with the builder's logo on them. The converter may be marked as well or at least painted a different color than stock.
