Hello all.
I'm a new recruit to Hotrodders.com
No current projects, but I've been researching building a TIG welder using both my old AC arc welder and an old alternator, which is how I found hotrodders.com

I work for a major motor manufacturer and I live in the UK.
Cheers to all.

Many thanks !

I may have been 'suckered in' to believing that it's possible to do decent quality welds with some DIY kit lashed up to an old arc unit. The stuff I read on the web ranges from unbelievably simple to needing a (very) good electronics ability to build control circuitry.

I am still collecting parts at the moment. Over here in the UK, the hardest parts to find have been diodes/SCRs for a full-wave bridge to turn my arc AC to DC. They just don't seem to be as numerous in the surplus market as they are in, say, the USA.

I also have a small (55A) alternator and an electric motor standing by to see whether I can duplicate the 'altrnator welder' stuff that's about on the web.
