Hello...
I'm new to this forum and looking for input. I am in the planning stage of a SR project but haven't decided on which body this project will be. I know, I know you are supposed to know these things, however I'm looking at a dropped, channelled and chopped 3/5 window (maybe with full fenders) or a 37 coupe reproduction with SB/5 gear or even a mild BB. (BB too heavy??)
Has anyone had experience with any of the available reproduction rollers or bodies around (Wildrod, Gibbon, American street rod and others).
Any suggestions to what to look for and what to look out for when selecting a starting point.

99% of the glass body/roller manufacturers make good quality products and use above board business practices. Just stay away from StreetBeast. Do a search in the archives and you will find a lot of discussion on their sorted past.

When it comes to the rest, you pretty much get what you pay for. Not meaning you get less quality for less expensive kits but the amount of work you personally have to do is directly related to the price you pay.

Generally specking a big block of any variety is not too heavy for a fiberglass car.

Look at the kits from Speedway (www.speedwaymotors.com). They have been selling and making haot rod parts since the 50s and have a high boy and track T kit that looks real good. The basic kit just includes frame and fiberglass body (no axles or hardware like window frame), but they sell everything to complete the car too. You can order the assembly manula for about $35. I haven't built one, but have used some Speedway parts. The kits look to be real good.

stay away from American Street Rods, there workmanship is not that good.

Heritage makes a very nice 32 Ford 3W Coupe as well other body styles.
BUT.... don't spend your money on anybody's body without going to see one at a retailer or swap meet or the factory. Look at it, feel it, inspect it, then choose.
NOTE: The one complaint I have about virtually all manufacturers closed car bodies is that they have made no provision for modern style weatherstripping around the doors. How hard can that be? Look around at the rod runs and swap meets...no one really knows what to do about the weatherstrips.
With the great number of rods having A/C in the plans I wonder when some maker will wake up!

Might take a look at Redneck out of Atchison KS, I just came home from OK City and on Saturday morning I was in the main exhibitors area and I saw the owner jumping up and down on the roof of a glass 34, I took a close look afterwords and could not find a crack or stress point. I have looked at the Street Beast, the bodies and fenders are molded together, fun if somone backs into you, and the chassis although they look to be strong are just plain UGLY. :)
