I visited a hot rod shop last saturday and observed a new part on many of the rods they were building. it is polished aluminum, approx. 14" high, 4 " wide and 1" deep.it as mounted near the firewall inside the cab, it allowed the steering column to be mounted almost parallel to the floor and had a chain drive enclosed set of gears. the shaft going out the firewall to the rack was well out of the way of headers, down near the frame rail. what are these called and where can you get them?

There are at least one on the market, although many are shop-built. This was a fairly common thing in the olden days for circle track and drag cars, too.

I put a Posie's offset steering gearbox in a '32 Ford last year.



After the fact, I was told that the car will never pass the NSRA safety 23 again because of the steering shaft offset box.

Are there any NSRA inspectors out there who can confirm or disprove that?
