Alright, I was running my engine, and it ran for a while, then I took off the valve covers to check the rocker arms, and when I cranked it, one of the rockers wasn't moving, so I took it off, and tried to check the problem, and the pushrod was off the lifter, the problem was then fixed.

Then we took out the spark plug in the cylinder, no compression... and now when we crank the starter, it whines like it has a lot less resistance. What the hell could this problem be?

As far as I can guess it's either the valve, or something more drastic I care not to mention...

VS, aww man I feel for you. How long did it run before it died? what is the history of this motor? did you change heads, cam? was the pushrod bent? Are all the keepers in the spring cap?

Without knowing more it sounds like the valve got stuck open, pushrod fell out, piston hit valve and bent it when it hammered it closed causing valve to hang open hence the low compression in that cylinder. You need to investigate further. I hope this did not happen.

Chuck is right here in all issues that he mentioned, however I'm wonderin if the lifters are solid or hyd? also what damage did the cam sustain? if the lifters are hyd, then it may have collapsed, possibly saving you some serious damage elsewhere. I still fear that you will need to pull the heads to be 100% sure. also dont forget to pull the affected lifter and check tha cam lobe.

I think I have the problem solved now. Really not sure what it was, a friend was adjusting the push rods, when he dropped one down below the intake...

so we cracked 'er open, and fixed all the pushrods, and now everything appears fine *shrugs*

Oh well, I think the free-spinning starter is because the charger has been running for weeks, and the battery has never had a decent charge before, hehe.

I don't know about you guys but this is one of the weirdest posts I've read in a while. He went from running the engine, taking off the valve covers himself, fixed the pushrod that wasn't seated in the lifter (not laying under an intake), checked the compression and had "no compression". And then to his friend was adjusting pushrods and somehow dropped one below the intake which they fixed so galantly and everythings honky-dory. The two stories just don't follow to me. No wait a minute, it was a friend of a friend who was working on...........
