My '51 shoebox ford rolls on unadorned red steels w/ wide whites. That's gonna change; I'm planning on blasting 'em clean then powder coating black (looks nice 'n evil with the black primer on the car). This time however, I want to add trim rings, and -- this is where I really need your help -- some kinda funky 'center cap.' this is what I'm talking about:

The best way I can describe them is as in "inner trim ring," one that fits on the area where you'r normally pop a center cap on, but has no center, leaving the lugs exposed.

If you check out Jesse Jame's '54 chevy on his www.westcoastchoppers.com site (under "whips"), you'll be able to see what I mean.

That's THE LOOK I want for my wheels, can any of you guys tell me what these "center-less center caps" are and where I can get 'em? I know I'm probably making very little sense, but any help is GREATLY appreciated.

By lookin' at the pics I would say the the wheels are chrome reverse masked off then painted or powder coated. The part that looks like the ring in the middle is actually the area where the hubcap snaps onto. I'm not sure about newer wheels but I know the older wheels had the four bumps to lock on the dogdish style of hubcaps. I did a search and ran across this site http://www.petepaulsen.com/ You might want to give them a look.

You could get almost the same effect with some spider caps...just wouldn't have the "inner trim ring"
Good idea about black steelies...red ones are becoming too common.

thanks, guys.... i had a hunch those might be chromes masked and painted. too bad for me, i can't lay that kinda dough down on new shoes just to get that chrome strip. maybe i'll just do 'em black, throw on the trim rings and a nice set of beefy bullet lugs... that'll look pretty nice as well, i gather.

regardless, thanks again for the input.

Mini rings

I have a set of spiders and mini rings.

The rings snap on the three bumps like a moon. They look like polished stainless steel.

Sometimes you can see them on ebay.
