Hello. I recently saw this on a site....Not my idea at all, so.

50 buck paint job

(th post down or something)

The guy gives pics and claims it works well.

Could any of you guys clearify if this works or not? Thanks.

I checked that post just partly. I believe that is the one where the guy paints his car with aerosol cans or something like that, instead of painting it the conventional way, using automotive paint and spraying it. If I am correct on this, that has been covered many times before here.

This site has a great "search" option. There are many many posts on painting a car, and the proceedures for that. You should take the time to search for the information, and do some reading.

Painting a car is basically a "pay me now, or pay me later" deal. If you want it to last, look decent, and cost the least, do it right. If you have a piece of junk, that you don't care about, and don't care if you waste money and alot of work, just to have to do it again a short time later, then go for it.

I believe you could do that.
No matter how you apply the paint, if you let it cure and
are willing to sand and buff it out, I'm sure you could get
a great finish.
But as far as paint durability, I'd recommend a automotive paint,
most others won't hold up to the UV exposure in the long run.
And will chip off rather easily.
You really need a paint with a hardener to get the durability.
At the very least and cheapest, I'd get a urethane color.
At under $100.00 a gallon with hardener, it's a good alternative
to the el cheapo paint jobs that are advertised around $300.00.

You may want to avoid the metallics if you go the non-sprayed route. :pimp:

Nope it's not rattle can spraying...he's ROLLING thinned out "Rust-o-leum" on in several layers and hand sanding it between each layer.

He's got pics of a nice orange Charger he did with his "PAINT ROLLER"

I can't imagine the hours involved to ROLL a car and hand sand Rust-O-Leum each time. I give him an A for effort!

I'll stay lazy and just spray with my HLVP.

That was from a few years ago....wonder what that Charger looks like now.

I painted my POS Blazer with a Rustoleum sort of paint a few years ago....Thinned it and sprayed.....Looked great............for about 4 months, then it faded bad.

I've never seen rustoleum hold up well to the sun either.

It does self level well though..I think it is because it's fish oil based or something like that.

OK... I was mistaken on the proceedure on this one. There was one a while back where the guy did the car with aerosol cans. He wet sanded and buffed it, and claimed that it looked as good as one shot with a spray gun. He quoted prices for the cans of paint and materials, and boasted that he had saved so much money for a professional looking paint job.

When people do jobs like that, they never come back and tell you when the paint job fails. LOL

Aaron, that's the truth!!! :thumbup:
To many people on these forums bragg about how great of a paint
job they have because it looks so good rubbed out.
Time is the test of quality.
It took 3 years for my Kirker Lazer Dry paint to fail and then it
went bad quickly. For the first 3 yrs I bragged about it
because it looked so good. Time is the true indicator, and for
me, about 3 yrs is where I've seen most problems really start
to show up. :pimp:

I spray bombed my first car and thought it looked amazing. Napa tractor yellow. I wrecked it a few months later and saw it in a scrap yard less than a year after. The sun had ate some of the paint clean off. I just sold our 01 montana that I had never even waxed, just coin-op pressure sray washed and the paint still looked like new. Automotive paint is the only way to go unless your trying to make your winter beater all one color!

I did have a friend in high school who's mom painted his car with a wagner power painter. Looked as good as another backyard paint job.
