I've attempted to build one and I'll let you know right aways, unless you have over 1.5k to spend you're never gonna build a buggy like the one you posted above. Mine came out pretty crappy and it didnt last very long but I built it on a budget. I had a 340cc 2-stroke engine on it of a snowmobile, I'll check if I can find pics.
You dont need plans!!! Just look at the pics and build it, this way you can build it the way YOU want it.
Your best bet is to find a cheap VW Beetle with a rusted body but in working order, should be able to pick one up for $300-500. Strip the body and slap on some old bucket seats, weld your own rollcage and slap on some bigger tires and you'll have all the fun!

the plans for the kit are only like 50 bucks, im not that cheap i would get them. i dont have a good enough imagination to just go out and make a chassis or anything. plus i would want somthing that will hold togther when im drivn it.
since i live in the city and need to tow a trailer with my car to get the buggy out to the offroad parks. the VW bettle would be too big and weigh to much for my car to pull and i would need more then a utility trailer.
but if i was on a farm or acerage it would be a awesome idea

ya see if u can get some pics, it would be intresting to see

Hahaha...Send them my way if you do find one that cheap...You might need to add another zero to the end of those figures. Everysince the New Beetle came out in '99 the prices of the VW Beetles went from $300-500 up to $2000-$4000 just for a rusted out POS. Good clean cars are going from $5700-and up(way up)

I've found various Beetles in the $200-900 range around here. I know a scrap yard that has 2 of 'em, one for $400 and a running one for $900 with rusted out floors.
You still do see them around on farmers fields and a bit outside the city, just gotta look.....
montea, I'll try to get some pics up, it was a really crappy buggy though

well i been searchn the net for the last 6 hours and the best kit is see is the ST2 from that website i first posted, for $50 for the plans of 120 page book is pretty cheap.

i was just looking in the paper and i see i could get a old motorbike with a like 750cc 4stroke for around 200-400 that i would use for a engine.

for how much to spend on it? well if i do build it, i will build it over 3-4 years. put maybe 3000 into it. just have a monthly budget to stick to.

looks like i can get a rear axle, hub carriers, slip u-joints and what not from a old volvo. trailer hubs for the front, and a steering rack from a VW golf.

Look for an old Honda Odyssey. Basically the same thing as these guys are building.

Isn't that a minivan?:( Unless honda made a dune-buggy-like thing back in the day. But then it'd be disgraceful to name a genaric jellybean after a fun machine. On the other hand, it's not as bad as GM bringing back the GTO but not the musclecar formula: fast, stylish, and most importantly: affordable.:(

But anyway how would a '73 Honda 750cc motorcycle engine do in one of those things? What about a 4-banger from a car? Now this idea is getting into the old 4-banger railjobs the early hotrodders ran.:D

The odyssey doesnt have much for suspension, maybe 3 inches travel in front and none in rear, and they're too low. If you want a good buggy, try to get the honda pilot, its like an upgraded version of the odyssey...and the 350 pilot is a pretty sweet machine

My dad finished a go-kart( a Tad bigger though) and had a 600cc kawaski engine running methonal. Only three people have been willling to ride it. I don't know how fast it is because your too busy trying to hang on to it. Had to about 70 and it scared me. The same engine in a Oddessy would freakin awesome. Just the right power to wieght ratio. Gotta make sure you got good belts though!

Looks like somebody better tell chevyluvnpuppy that she can't be the head greasewhore anymore. It might offend someone.
