I just rebuilt a MOPAR 318 and have a problem. I have a oil leak coming from the base of the filter. When I pulled off the filter I found that the leak was coming from the adapter that bolts to the block. So I did what we all do naturally, pulled off the adapter and found out the gasket was good and not torn so I put on a thin layer of silicone reinstalled the adapter plate(tightening it good), put on the filter, added oil and started it back up. Lo and behold I still have a leak. Do any of you MOPAR experts have any experience with this problem? It is starting to frustrate me.

Do the same thing again. This time don't tighten the bolts completely until the silicone is about half cured. When the goop is good and firm, tighten the bolts completely it will compress the new "gasket" and seal better. Wait until the silicone is completely cured before firing it up again. If you don't it will push the silicone out and leak again.
