I just got this car and when I installed the dipstick in the 700r there was nothing. So I read that I need almost twelve quarts. I began putting in oil and at quart number 7 it started dumping out of the spline. So I stopped. Is this normal? Do I need a drive shaft or plug to stop this. It is real hard to get an accurate read on this dip stick. Cant tell if it is the level or smears of oil. also on the power steering pump. I filled it to the top. I figure that the hoses and the rack will absorb a good chunk, was I right?

Yes, you do need a Driveshaft or plug to prevent fluid from running out. Stop adding fluid. The level is checked with the Engine running. When you get it running shift the Trans thru all gear positions with the rear wheels off the ground to purge air. Then continue adding fluid slowly untill @Cold mark, when up to temp fill to Hot mark.
Yes, the Hoses & Rack will take up fluid. Start & stop the engine, recheck fluid level, repeat untill you can see fluid in bottom of Reservor. Then turn the wheel lock to lock to remove air & recheck fluid, repeat until full. Don't remove the cap while running.
