All right, besides Speedway who seems to have some flattie parts, and Flathead Jack (my catalog is on order...) who seems to have his act together, is there anyone else out there who is fairly well known who has a good flathead catalog and KNOWLEDGE besides these two common culprits? This is my first flathead for my 29 rod and I want to have LOTS of info before I start messin' around with an engine I'm not familiar with. In lieu of that, are there any sites where I can learn more about the flattie before I just start tearin' things apart? Thanks!

Get a catalog from Red's Headers. They have a full line of flathead V8 parts as well as their own line of headers for flatties. Marilyn and Red are retiring but they'll be there training the new owner for the next 6 months to a year.

:pimp: Go to a site like http://www.Amazon.com and look for Frank Oddos' book Flathead Ford V8s or Tex Smiths' How to Build a Flathead, both books are loaded with info and supplier links to parts.

One other point to go to for reference. Several years (maybe 4?) (I dunno, maybe 8) ago, Street Rodder magazine did one of their "how to build up a . . . . " series on flattys. Might be some good info there as they do a series of articles on a specific build-up. Additionally, I can't recall the name, but there is a flatty specialist up in the Santa Rose (CA) area. If anyone out there remembers his name, perhaps their memory'll be jogged and they'll post it here.

It may be just me, but I find it kind of funny that the call themselves "motor city speed equipment" but don't sell any "equipment". :D

your not the only 1. they're just starting off tho. last I heard 1 of there biggest projects was going to actully market aftermarket flathead blocks. Motor City Flathead was going to and had all the designes and stuff to do it, but they went under, now there bought by new owners.

flathead info

A fellow in Arizona has a business selling flathead parts, He advertises in
Hemming's Motors, but I no longer subscribe so I do not have the address. Northern auto parts sells a motor rebuild kit, I believe they are in Sioux City.
All the parts are available, just takes money. Good Luck on your project.Tim

Thanks for the great info!

I appreciate the info, guys. I've found that looking at catalog pix has a tendency to raise more questions than they answer at this point, if you know what I mean.
Stay tuned for more goofy questions from me coming very soon! :D
