Does anyone know how the old GM fuel injection systems worked that were on the late 1950s Corvettes? I assume they were mechanical, but how were they driven? ...from the timing chain? I heard they had real maintenance problems because gas is not as good a lubricant as diesel. Did they inject into the intake runners like modern MFI systems or did they inject into a throttle body?

Don't know a whole lot about them...they were made by Rochester, had a plenum like a throttle body of sorts.

While NOT a authority on them....I had a few "back in the day"

The pump was driven by a cable.......that ran off the distributor. The cable was similar to a speedometer cable.

Very true, but in very high demand today, almost as high as the cross ram intake for the 69 Z/28.

Great link, Poncho. Did you also find the videos on it?

Looking at the pics, it appears the system was a throttle-body injection setup. I guess it made a lot more sense to drive it off the distributor shaft than the timing chain, but I can truly believe it was troublesome. Sounds like a lot of load to put on the distributor and cam drive gears.
