My good friend and salvage yard owner has been closed down by the state of Utah as of March 1, 2007. This is due to an over zealous business owner and land developer in the SLC, UT. area. He pushed trough the courts of Tooele County Utah, a motion to close the yard 4 months early and the state put a seal against having an auction to help liquidate the yard. Quote from the state, " we will not allow an auction, because we do not need anymore derelict cars on the roadways, that are not up to standard safety regulations of todays automobiles on the road". This is the first motion of the state to stamp out our old rides. Because they do not meet, according to the state of Utah, todays safety standards of a new auto from the OEM manufactures.
This is a blow to all of us. Not only is it the beginning of what has been a long road by the auto industry, but with the help of the oil industry as well. To rid the roads of any automobile or truck that is more then ten years old.
No airbags, ABS braking systems, safety glass, seat belts, auto-lighting systems, warning systems, 5-mile per hour safety bumpers, and on and on and on......good things being fed to the shredder.
