yes, please more details...

I really hope you had good insurance, I'm glad you're ok, even if you didn't.

Honestly if that happened to me I would be completely crushed. I really just don't have the time, resources or money to deal with things like that...

hope you can get it fixed for prime cruising season...

Sorry for lack of details... kinda out of it still... But here it goes...
(oh and just to mention, insurance is required by law in MD to do anything with a car, so he has it.)

2 blocks down the street from my house, there's a road that can easily fit 3 cars side by side with a few feet inbetween... its a two way road with no dividing lines... Neighborhood street 25mph speedlimit I was going up the road as he was comming the other way, there's a slight curve in the road, left for him, right for me, and theres a car parked to my right. I drive down this road with cars comming the other way all the time with no problem... He shorted the turn and went to the inside of the corner, where i was, I got as far over to the right as I could without hitting the parked car, locked up my brakes and kept sliding on the wet road. Put some nice skid marks down... And at some point between slamming the brakes and the impact, i side-steped the gas, which cancelled out the slowing of the brakes... And I know he wasnt paying attention, he didnt try to stop the truck until we hit. and Im about 90% sure he was on a cell phone.

Damage to his truck: bumper needs to be re-polished, new fender, and a corner light.

Damage to the camaro: Fender, hood, bumper, windshield, bumper cover, frame rail, radiator support, tire, rim, vacum system for the fuel lines, and I can no longer turn right.

I wasnt to hurt then... but when I woke up this morning... damn... been a long time since i've ever been this sore.

BTW, Thanks for the support everyone...
As far as the car goes... I'd love to keep it and fix it up, but thats up to the insurance company. If they total it, which there's a good chance they will, I might have to buy it back from them with the money they give me for it. Or hopefully they'll let me keep it and give me cash for it. Or just give me money to fix it again. I still dont know what to do, so im going to let them figure it all out, then start thinking.
As far as the frame (uni-body) goes... Yeah the driver side frame rail is bent down about 30 degrees, and the fender and radiator supports are both gone on that side. As soon as the insurance company evaluates it, im going to tear all the broken crap off it and see what I have to work with. I have a good friend that will let me use his frame machine at his shop to try and pull everything back together and straighten it all out for free, and everything else minus the welding im going to do... I have a couple people that can get some quality scrap steel and will weld everything back together for me... so hopefully if they give me money just to fix it, i'll get most of it done for free, excluding parts...

Glad I had the cheap winter rims/tires on at the time though...

be interesting if you could find a copy of his cell phone records to see if a call "ended" just about the time your car got munched...
hmm... good idea...

arch maybe your insurance company will buy you a set of road rage cards. This one might be of use to you.
...definately should've said something like that to him...

He said it was my fault because i was going to fast, I think I was going the speed limit, I was only in 2nd gear

Oh, btw, cop didnt file a report because both cars were drivable and nobody was hurt....

what motor do you have in it? You ought to quck and get a junkyard dog motor in there and take out your good one (and the trans) then let them total the thing lol.

Take your cash, your mill and parts and put together a car that you've been meaning to build.

Basicly stock 305... intake, thottlebody, and some other little things done to it... nothing special, trans only has 1000 miles on it, rear-end is a dana44 with 3.92 gears, aluminum driveshaft...
Think I can do a drive-train shop in less than 24hrs with my neck/back hurtin this bad? :D :mwink:

Ideally thats what I would want to do... have them total the car, give me the cash, and let me keep it, pull everything out, and drop it into something else, maybe minus the engine... I'd just get something with a 350 already in it.

dang dude...

If I were you I would get a friend to help and unbolt the trans from the motor, the trans mount, cut the brake lines and chop or drop the springs. Bet I could have the back half of that car off in about an hour or two.

Not a good thing. Now it is your word against his. And depending on age and th etype of vehicle his insurance company might just refuse to pay. If that is the case then either they will fight it out (insurance companies) or his will pay his and yours will pay yours. Then th erates go up. Worse case is that your insurance company will believe his and you will end up having to pay. Not to bust your bubble. Just reality.

you could sue the guy, and supoena his phone records. If you can show that he was on the phone during the accident, that may negate any "at fault" claims. In cal, we have a "distracted driving" law that was penned because of phones, stereos, and TVS being in cars. I understand that some people have gotten around the "rear end, automatically your fault" law using the distracted driver law. Who called the cops?
you would be able to use the phone call to the cops, against the "distraction" phone call...

At least your okay, and if the INS lets you, it may be fun to rebuild your car!!

Man that sux!!!Last wreck I was in it was a drunk driver, putting his Jeep in reverse and drinving up onto the bumper of my Malibu. Can not believe the cops would not take a rerport man, that is bad too.If someone so much as taps your car here a report is made if one party calls the police.Unless we get a storm and alot of wrecks occur, then info change. They can not waste time on accident reports.

Yeah... didnt realize that till later when i was talking to some friends, they pretty much said the same thing... although I can get the officers name if it comes down to it (dont think it would help much though)... he had a passenger witness though... Good thing on my side is It was 3 houses down from my friends house, and two friends came out right as it happened and saw where the truck was on my side of the road...

skid marks were gone today, so I was definately sliding on some water or something...

Not sure if anybody called the cops or one just happened to be driving by, only one cop showed up. Neither of us called him though, as far as i know, i watched him the whole time, never got back on his phone until it was over. His buddy might've or one of the hundreds of people running out of their houses... although as soon as i said everyone was ok, most people left...

Arch, get the responding officers name.He may have picked up on something favorable, but since no report was made or requested,it is a good thing to have.ALWAYS insist on a police report, even if it is your fault. They note any immediate injuries. Not saying this guy is this way but there are so many people out there looking for a payday it is not even funny anymore.Remember,if someone can sue McDonalds because their coffee was hot, than anyone can be sued.Who in their right mind orders cold coffee?CYA is the word, guarantee he is gonna cover his.

When I wrecked mine, the insurance company didn't let me use my performance part's to upvalue the car. It was totaled and I got 1800 for it. Tallying up performance part's added to near five thousand in the motor alone. Not including clutch, trans and rear gears, and other minor stuff. They said they don't have anyway of proving what the hop up part's were worth by salvage. Wouldn't be cool to find a 420 horse 355 with Brodix 11x heads and 10,000 miles on the clock sitting in a junk yard? Anyway, the performance part's actually lowered the valued of my car. So you might not want to tell them about anything you've done to it. Just pay the few hundred to keep it and be money ahead.
