Does anyone out there know if they make a bolt on overdrive system for a '53 chevy? I was at a swap meet last year and I saw one on a '58 chevy biscayne, the car had a 6cylinder and a three speed and what appeared to be a third emergency brake handle under the dash. But on closer exam it had the word "overdrive" on it. So I didn't know if thie was something that was mechanical, vacuum, or electrically operated. I would appreciate any help you can give me?

GM used to have a 3 speed with overdrive back in the late 50s. I seem to remember that it was part of the tailshaft, but I thought that it was electricly engaged. I may be mistaken about that. I used to have one of these, and it had an electrical connection on it, but am not sure exactly what it did.

I never had it in a car.

Gear Vendors makes bolt on overdrive units for many different transmissions.

They are quite expensive though, and I think they guarantee them to almost any amount of power you can run through them.

There may be a few others out there but this one was the only one i could think of off the top of my head.
