I have a pontiac 400 BB I was wondering what is the best temperature to operate the motor at......? I had a 180 thermostat and when it was cold out it runs like 165 too cold.......i went to a 195 and it runs like 205....what is the best temp for my motor or any motor for that matter.....thanks in advance

195 isn't too bad at all. When you start peaking 205-210 thats getting a little hot but 190-195 is target area for most cars i believe. I run mine at around 185 or so and it seems to work really well.

Since you are in "Cheeseland"...(Wisconsin), I would leave the 195 in for the winter. You will need the heat. Put the 180 back in, in the spring.
