I wanted to order paint gun cup strainers. Two choices, 100 micron or 190 micron. When I buy paint the shop just tosses in a hand full. I have no idea what micron they are. I'm thinking 100 for primer, and 190 for color. your thoughts? Stan

I usually keep some of both around because 190's can strain flake out of color. I'm not sure what the ones I get from my jobber are either but they seem to be somewhere between the two.

Dried crumbs from containers or lids are the most common catch. I like normal pour-through strainers made of paper but an in-cup one is added insurance. As HipG said, too fine can strain out flakes in color. Those ones are for your dedicated clear gun.

I don't have a proper micron answer. Best I can do is say it depends.

I have read many posts where in cup strainers have caused problems as the cup gets close to empty. Especially with high viscosity paints. I filter my paint carefully as I fill my cup but run no in cup filter.

If it goes into the cup clean, it will stay that way.

Most paint has some stuff in it, some a lot.
I'm amazed at some of the junk I find in my strainer.
I use a metal strainer like this, they are just a dollar on Ebay.
I reuse it.
I've seen particles come off of the paper ones.

I use the paper cones and don't use the small cup strainers although I have considered trying them with clear. I just don't want it fouling up a paint job.
