How do I paint up under the roll at the top of a step side pickup bed?
I have a gravity feed gun and a siphon feed gun, but I can’t seem to get the right angle to hit up under the rolled edge.
I tried to turn the bedside upside down to apply epoxy primer but that didn’t help I just got a lot of runs trying to get the correct angle.
Any thoughts?
Do I need a special gun or tip with a 90 degree angle?

Stepside bed painting

I would think that if you took the fenders off, you could probably paint the area you are speaking of. You may need to use a "detail" (aka jamb gun) to do it, but I think just removing the fenders will help you immensely.

i don't know if its the right way but it has worked for me if you can pull the fenders off assuming its bc/cc make your fan narrow and do several light coats up in there with a little more distance than usual and then widen the fan and continue painting as normal it has worked for me but then again i did only once and i guess it was more luck than skill

I have the sides off the truck and the fenders are also off.
I will try the narrowing of the fan on the other side. Wish me luck.
I'm sure your done but....

Thats what I do narrow it down to almost a circle spray then widen the fan out a little make another run then widen the fan again and finish,That way it keeps a wet edge, Adjusting my paint flow as I go.

I tried that on the other side with the epoxy primer, but I must have rushed the second coat as the Bondo showed through. I got a few runs where I tried to paint the inside of the pockets. Good thing I am working with the primer I can repair the primer. I’ll probably have plenty of coats of primer before the AE.
I’m hoping for better results with poly and AE.
:embarrass:rolleyes:
