Shortly I'll be painting my 75 Nova, but I won't be able to do it in the shop because the main bay is currently full of R4360D radial aircraft engine-28 cylinders, 3,500 horsepower-and totally blocking access to the shop with its 3,500 pounds of immoveable bulk.

So I'll be needing to paint outside, and was wondering if anyone had any tips or suggestions aside from "Don't."

And on another note, liable to get either loads of conflicting replies or a number of people saying "Whatever looks good to you," does anyone have any suggestions as to color? I was thinking a dark blue.

my favorite blue has always been the saphire blue from the 2001 dodge viper.. looks black at night, and an awesome deep blue during the day..

OEM paint code is PBW... not the best pictures, but it kind of shows the color..

Wow. Nice-looking... of course, that's the car as much as the paint in that case. ;)

This'll be the first time I've painted a whole car, so I'm a little bit apprehensive.

Nerver wanted to say never on this site and discourage someone- but I painted outside once... and will neverdo it again- just too many problems- bugs, birds, dust, leaves, neighbors mowing, etc. If you do try it be ready to wet sand a lot of imperfections. Can you rent a place or borrow a friend's garage? Just hate to see you go to a lot of hassle fighting stuff. Only real way is to make a plastic 'bubble' and spray inside that- but wear a respirator anywhere- even outside the fumes can do damage. Good luck!

i read *somewhere* about building a good sized booth out of either PVC tubing or similar (you could probably build one big enough with a few hundred bucks), then cover the whole thing in tarpaulins and plastic drop sheets...

never done it myself though... (and i'm also commencing my first ever full spray job - inside, luckily!)

Build a tent from 2X2's (or 2x4's), clear plastic from the lumber yard and duct tape . Cost you about $20. Make a box structure but at every corner add a brace of 2 foot lumber.

You can also add a fan and furnace filter to make a nearly dust free environment. My buddy did this and I was very impressed with the results.

The only problem is everybody walking by asks "Whatcha' doing?"

I saw a motorcycle tank painted "Black Sapphire" (I think Sherwin-Williams but not sure). It's almost black unless in the sun. I'm thinking of using it myself on my 78 Skylark
