Hey gents.

Building a low boost turbo 454 big block Chevy and am looking to get around 700 horses out of it. I plan on putting a set of flat top TRW forged pistons in it. Part number is 2377F. They are used but in good condition. I will be using a 781 casting large oval port head. Compression should be around 8.7 to 1.

You guys see any issues with this particular piston and it's ability to handle a few pounds of boost?

I don't see any problem w/the pistons, obviously pay attention to the ring end gaps and if they're used the side clearances to be sure they're not wide from wear or pinched from detonation.

Are you sure about the cr? Sounds kinda high for a FT w/an open chamber head, but I haven't run the numbers...

Good advice on the ring gaps. Use a good plasma-moly ring pack, too.

The Speed Pro (TRW) forgings are plenty "tough" for your application. They are also plenty heavy! If your budget can stand it, I would prefer to see SRP or Icon pistons used. Reasonable price and MUCH lighter than the Speed Pro.

Thanks Cobalt for your input. I have not crunched the numbers on the CR myself. Just did a little research on the internet on my combo and asked another person.

If the heads are available you can measure the chamber volume yourself using just an old CD disc and a large syringe. There have been posts here on how to do this, so if you do a search I'm sure you'll see them.

The head valve relief volume is published by the manufacturers, then you need the compressed thickness of the head gasket and the piston-to-deck measurement and a calculator to plug the numbers into.
