If there is anyone out there that has done this before please help, my frustration is at its peak. I have a floor mat that I am binding using a 2" wide piece of vinyl and a 1/2" seam allowance, everything looks great in the straightaways but when it comes to the corners at wrapping my selvage around the edge it just bunches up the corner of my carpet and leaves a hump. Just so you know I am sewing at 1/2" Seam Allowance and then as close to the edge of the carpet as possible to keep the binding laying flat, what else should I be doing.

What kind of radius are you trying to get around?

You can pull the vinyl taught as you go around the corner, it'll narrow a little but that should get you around without the lumps.

1/2'' is to deep try 1/4'' as for the cor ners it depends if they are square or radiused

Also there is a thin binding material that won't bunch.

I guess I was going by the Ron Mangus/Taylor Custom Upholstery book and in there they talk about cutting the 2" strips and using a 1/2" seam allowance, however they never show them making or wrapping the corners. I"ll give the 1/4" a try.

Alright I tried the 1/4" and got it wrapped around the corner and to the backside, however the carpet now lies flat except for the corner where it cups up is this just normal and I have to deal with it or what?

When you get approach the corner don't stretch the binding ease it in(push a little) thats what gives the extra binding so it doesn't cup.
