I just purchased a 350sbc for $300. The engine starts and runs well, its smooth and quite. The plug wires are messy though, and I'm sure it needs a good tuneup. The problem is the exhaust it popping with flames. Could this just be a tune up problem?

The engine is going into a 79 Chevy K10

It's coming out of an 84 Suburban.

Thanks,
Steve

Are you running it with just manifolds, or no manifolds?

If you are, it will be fine when you hook up the exhaust.

With....its popping after the mufflers...only on one side I noticed....the exhaust was in pretty rought shape...also, this was before we pulled the engine. I haven't installed it yet.

Sounds like the plug wires have seen better days for a start.
If it was the carb it would be both sides.
I would recommend a complete tuneup once its completely installed in the K10. The serpentine pulleys should fit the same.
