what you really need to do is to put in a product review. these are widely read. your review will rank right up there with my review of Custom autosounds. uggh!!! thanks for the heads (PU) up. *****

There is a link to "Company Review" at the top of the web page under the title. That's where you want to place it.

I've seen several people ask about those heads over in the Engine forum in the past. May have to direct them to that web site.

Aside from the good info on procomp heads, I think its VERY interesting to see that Vortec 170cc intake ports only give up 5hp to the 180cc Brodix AND the vortecs give you only 10 less ft-lbs, but it comes at a full 1000 rpms lower.

Sign me up for the vortecs.

Yes, the vortec is a nice head for sure. But did you notice the CR on the Brodix "out of the box test"? (9.0)
When I milled the Brodix down to the same 61cc as I had the procomp and vortec at, I picked up almost 10 more hp.

I have 2 things. Why would you spend $2000 on valves then buy the cheapest set of castings on the market? Then with all of this head swapping and money spent and time invested a 377 still does not make 400 HP. I have wonder how good the guy is that did all this work, seems human nature to blame someone else when it don't work right.

That was the "OUT OF THE BOX" test. The engine makes 426hp.
the dyno results for the 3 sets of heads speak for themselves!
I could make 600hp with this engine if I wanted to. I have strict parameters that I have to work within, like 9.25 CR max, minimum amount of over lap, Timing issues, etc!! Run an engine at full load WOT for 4 hours and you'll see why inconel valves.

i always figured the pro comp heads was junk. pro comp has all kinds of junk floating around now, even a knock off of the msd 6aL box. looks to me like the companies their ripping off the designs from could do something legally.

are the patriot heads in the same class?

In a word, no.

I'm not much for magazine tests but, look at the January, '08 issue of Chevy Hi Performance.

Two big blocks, 496 and 505 tested. The 496 had cnc ported Edelbrock heads, 0.5 more compression, a significantly larger camshaft of the same type (solid roller), a larger carburetor, the same manifold I believe, and made slightly less horsepower and significantly less torque across the board than the 505 with out of the box Patriot heads. The Edelbrock heads even had 5cc of volume over the Patriot heads.

Yes, I know 9 cubes counts for something but, with the extra $1000 for cnc ported Edelbrock heads, in addition to all the other little advantages that the 496 enjoyed, I would've expected it to have made more of everything across the board but, it didn't.

i came back to this thread because i thought it was about Patriot heads.

no, don't confuse the two. as long as you mentioned Chevy High performance magazine, there is yet ANOTHER article about Patriot in them, in the November issue with a small block. ( the promised dyno run they say they will make the next month, Dec.s issue and i don't know if they followed thru or not.)

anyway there are at least 10 pics of Patriot heads in this article ("Build your fist Top end" or part three of Build Your First Engine series.) they go over these heads with a fine tooth comb and seem to love everything about them. close up pics. if you have access to this issue you can see for yourselves. granted, when the check paying for them says "primedia publishing" on it you may send them something alittle better than the norm.

so No, different company, different heads, don't confuse them.
