Yea, Im a new guy here, so this has probably been asked before (I saw the Streetbeast Willys thread...yikes)...but I need feedback on a couple other companys that make them as well. I know that most everyone raves about Outlaw....and Dennis Taylors stuff seems to be well regarded. But does anyone know about Antique and Collectable Autos (A & C ) out of Buffalo? I have heard a few positive things about them, but have never seen the product personally. I know the bodies are all hand laid, wood reinforced, dimensionally correct etc., but what about the chassis? How about Heritage? These are both companys that I have heard good things about, that appear to be slightly cheaper than an Outlaw or Dennis Taylor. Anyone know? All I know is I have been researching all this stuff about glass bodies, and there are alot more making them nowday than I would have imagined. I have nothing good about Willys Works bodies, Active Power, and a few others...and I wont even mention the Streetbeast. Your input is greatly appreciated.

I know you mentioned Outlaw not being as cheap, I saw Outlaw at a past GoodGuys show in Charlotte and the body was impessive looking as far as quality goes. The body was shiny black gelcoat and looked very straight. Didn't look like much to do to prep it, it didn't look like it would need alot of block sanding. Good luck finding the one you want. :D

41 willys bodies

there is a guy in dunkirk N.Y. who sells A/C bodies and has his own chassis for them. A buddy of mine bought one and it was great..... the bodies are pretty good but the chassis was fantastic. I would pick one up if the boss would let me.lol anyway the guys website is www.fasttimesrods.com. dont have the phone but call them first....dont think he paid a ton of money for it either.

I really trust Mike Nordahl @ Willyz Replacement Parts. This is all he does and his stuff all looks top quality. I have known him for years since he comes to all of the nostalgia drags at Famoso and the WSRA Nationals. Check with him on his 'glass cars.

Had a friend who bought a 1-piece hood from Willy Works in NY. Looked OK when it got here but we left it upside down on a couple of saw horses while we were installing hinges and when we turned it over there were two 1/4" deep grooves where the 'glass embedded on the horses. The 'glass was still VERY green. We put the hood on the truck and let it sit in the sun for about a week to cure. This worked and the hood has done great for 10 or 12 years of regular service.

Heritage has gotten some bad press lately. I personally know one individual who returned the body he had purchased from them, this was last year. Outlaw is a little more expensive than the others, but quality costs a little more. A body is no place to try and save a few bucks. Hand laid does not mean much now a days, and IMO is not a selling point. A shiney gel coat does also not mean much either, and should not be used as an indicator of level of quality. It has been my experience that you really cannot judge a vendors product at a show. Usually that is a hand picked, and sometimes specially produced body just for show. Ask me how I know this:pain: Read all you can get your hands on about fiberglass bodies, and you will learn there are plusses and minuses to wood vs metal reinforced bodies

I know several people in my area that have purchased and built Outlaw Willy's bodys and they are very pleased with the product and service.

willys body & pro street frame

Howdy I recently bought a willys coupe body & frame from speedrodtimes and am very satisfied. I blocked the gel coat with 220, shot it with black lacquer and the quality is excellent. The doors fit very well. The fenders & hood fit very well. The chassis is beautiful Pete's the guy you want to talk to. Bobby

Conrad is talking about the age of this thread, not your post. We who have been around a long time get cranky when a thread gets discussed, a resolution is reached, then it fades into the past only to be resurrected from nowhere. Newbies like you get enthused about this site (justifiably - best site on the web bar none!), find an old thread of interest and post on it. Isn't harmful, just gets our feathers riled. It bugs me too but now that I think about it I don't know why it should. Etiquette here is to start a new thread if the old one is XX days/months/years old. This actually does have a purpose in keeping contentious threads dead. Some get really heated and we are all happy when they drift our of our sight.

Don't be concerned, stay here and enjoy. We will huff and puff but aren't (too) dangerous!!

Willys

I have a Outlaw 41 willys that i purchased 1 year ago in finished condition, it was built in New York in 1993,moved to California about 6 years ago, i purchased it last September and brought it to Washington.it has 18,000 miles on it and the fiberglass is still perfect. I have had occasion to contact Outlaw with tech questions and couldn't say more about the great friendly staff.

Yep, I was refering to Homeslice who started this thread back in 2002 asking for a recommendation for a Willys glass body... His last post on this thread was in 2007 when he indicated that the project was 90% done and he was selling it.

I am sure that the shop you are refering to builds a great body... it's just that the guy who asked the original question back in 2002 doesnt seem interested anymore.

There are threads on this board that die and then several years latter come back to life... hence the reference to a zombie...
