Lord Maximo, nice words of encouragement.

With some research, you would find tires that are the same overall size, just have larger rim sizes. Sometimes you need bigger rims to fit bigger brakes. That is why we are putting 18" wheels on our 68 Chrysler Imperial project. With 29" tall tires. SAME overall diameter as stock.

What does the car care what the rim size is? The od of the tire is what matters.
You are right poncho
Here is a link to a spiffy chart that helped me understand the bigger sizes.

I doubt is some of the tires on that chart actually exist, so you need to go find a tire company you like and.......
Go to that tire companies website and get to the pages that have actual tire sizes in section width and overall diameter and suggested rim width, it makes selecting a tire easier.
Here is a sample page from toyo tires, of the sizes available for only ONE of their tread patterns.

not my favorite company, but indicititive of the resources that are available by looking on line. I just went to the website, picked a tread that looked cool , selected "sizes and specs" .
Most of the manufacturers have pages similar to that one.
Get your pencil and paper ready, especially if you want to find bigs and littles in matching treads.
Have fun,
Mikey
Here is one more thing to consider when choosing to go with the larger rims, , a larger rim may keep you legal when you start modifying your suspension to make your car lower as the increased rim diameter will raise the scrub line.
