i have a 65 mustang fastback and i just got a shelby gt350 center gauge pod and as i was hooking the tach up i screwed up and got my wires crossed..i put the power terminal to power but the ground and coil terminal were crossed..needless to say the car wouldnt start, when i realized what i did i crossed them back and the car started right up..but the tach now doesnt work...please tell me i didnt blow it out..what do you think?..i dont know why it would blow it out seeing the power was on the right terminal and the coil lead was connected to the ground terminal on the gauge so the worst i think that could happen is when the coil sends power to the gauge it would just be going to ground..am i right???

I really don,t think you zapped it by what you did either, but maybe this will give you a bump to someone with some more info.

EDIT:
I am guessing you have four wires. One will go to hot with engine running.
One will go to light switch.
One will go to ground.
And there will be one that goes to the
negative side of the coil.
