Quick Radiator Q's

Easy one for ya guys...What is the larger fitting for under the overflow? My brass rad didn't have that. Also, what are people using these days for overflow containers and where are you mounting them? Are they necessary? My '72 Monte didn't have one, just a tube that ran straight to the ground.

Some Chevy applications run the heater hose return to that location vs. the water pump.

Does this new radiator have a built-in trans cooler?? It is typically in the passenger side tank with inlet near the top and outlet near the bottom of the tank.

If you pull that brass plug and water comes out, then it is for heater hose return connection.
If plug is pulled and nothing comes out, then it is a separate cooler circuit for transmission, engine oil, or power steering fluid cooling.

Trans coolers don't have heater hose diameter barb fittings. Be thankful the OP's radiator has a screw-in metal plug. Most vendors use the crappy rubber caps that crack and leak within a year.
