Hi Everyone, FILBEE is back with questions, been ill for past three years but I’m back at my project dream machine. Need help with a steering rack that fits my BENTLEY hot rod.
FORD... RF-E80C-3550-AA, have been told that it is off a Ford TAURUS 1988. PROBLEM … it has three connections two small and one large. Have been told that smaller is high pressure. Larger is return. How do I identify which of the smaller to use. Is the other smaller one OK to plug off. What should I do?

racked out

Thanks KULTULZ, for the posting, but the drawing shows only the Hi and Low connections on the rack. (two pressure connections on the rack only). The cross section at ‘A’ is showing how the tubes are bundled together.

The illustration has been ADULTERATED...

It should show the port above and to the left of the VAPS valve to be plugged. This takes a threaded plug and seal.

Holes, Holes! Size makes a difference!

Thanks for the information, looks like we are heading to the resolve. I took off the fender to get a better look at all this and found that I had been given the wrong information. There are two large ports and one smaller. Looking face on at the ports,

A at the top, small connection (1/4 NPT)
B middle, large connection (off the center line)
C bottom, large connection

Cannot identify the thread for ports B & C yet.

So am I right.
A … High Pressure (From Pump)
B … (Plug)
C… Low Pressure (Return to Pump)

If you go from top to bottom, A-B-C;

A is plugged

B is pressure

C is return

The illustration was found on the AUTOZONE repair site and is an exact copy of the FORD service info except the upper oriface (I knew I would use that college word one day) has been eliminated, most likely to cause less confusion.

If you read the illustration closely, it will identify pressure and return.

Do you need fitting size(s)?

Thanks, If you have the fitting sizes that would be great.
I have a GM pump that will feed the fluid to the rack and I have a pressure regulator. So I have a bit of plumbing to do.
Thanks again for the help @ my age of 64 its nice to know there's help out there. I tried everywhere to get this information. I guess its an oddball rack. But it did fill the needs and the geometry was right on.

Listen, the FORD MPC only gives me part numbers and no sizes (on some it does). It looks like it will be mix and match at a salvage yard if the fittings are missing. The prefix E8OC only identifies the actual housing (casting I.D. No.) (could be either TAURUS or CONTINENTAL). If there is no metal or paper I.D Tag, it might require some extended matching.

I went to my local parts dealer BIT THE BULLIT and purchased a single line set to fit the rack. I now have a fitting that works on the rack. I will now go to my hydraulic guy and get the lines made up. THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR HELP. I will post the outcome.

I have the 84 thunderbird rack(only two fittings on rack) and a GM pump had no room for extra hose material the distances were too small. I got a Borgesons pressure reducer that went in the large fitting in the back of the pump and they have a replacement for that fitting and the spacers they provide and instructions will help to reduce the pressure to the ford rack and it cost about $17.00 + shipping. worked great has more feel to the steering then b4. Ed ke6bnl
