I have just finished installing a triangulated four link onto my 48 Chevy pickup, and am now in the process of looking for rear coil over shocks. I used the following equation to determine a rough estimate of the shock sized I would need:

(shock travel) x 66% - distance between mounting points of shock at ride height = compression

and

(shock travel) x 33% + istance between mounting points of shock at ride height = rebound


At Summit Racing I found QA1 Pro Coil-Over Conversion Systems ALN2000K (QA1 Pro Coil-Over Conversion Systems ALN2000K - SummitRacing.com.)

Using my distance between mounting points of the shock at ride height (15 inches) and the travel distance of these shocks (5.125), I calculate my needs to be 16.69 rebound and 11.61 compression.

The shocks from Summit Racing are 16.250 rebound and 11.125 compression.

Have I done my calculations correct, and will these shocks work for my needs?

when i was figuring out what shocks to use on my truck I let the axle sit down against the frame, that is as low as it can ever go. then for the extended length i put the truck axle at droop 4" below the ride height, that is the total length of travel for my air bag. i did the measurements from the shock mounts at these heights and went from there. I was looking for shocks though, not coil overs. i went to the monroe site and found the specs chart. easy peezy.

We always go for at least 5" of travel in the rear. With our current coil overs that puts you with a 14.5" to 15" drive height. Our 5"" stroke shock compresses to 11.23 extends to 16.43. If you need any help on spring rates let me know.
