I have a 72 Chevelle clone. I was told that it had a 373 positive traction rear end. Found the number code on the housing. It was not that readable but this is what I made out. Not sure if it's right.

I want to change the gears to a 390. Any advise would be grateful.

im guessing the sticker that lists the gear size is gone...

go to randys ring and pinion website and find the RPM calculator. enter in your suspected gear ratio, and tire size, and MPH - it will tell you what your RPM should be at that speed. this will verify your gear ratio. if its not right then try a different possible ratio. you should find enough info on the site to figure it out

thats how i confirmed my ratio. ( before i realized i still had a sticker :)

only 390? i went 411 and wish i would of went 455. just a thought
