i agree HK, plus although a grill for my truck is alot cheaper to buy chromed new than to have mine redone, guys up here arn't too happy with the qaulity sometimes. i, on the other hand, think my local chrome guy is an ### hole and cant find is *** with both hands.
There is a traveling bumper place that goes to most swapmeats. They are from California and they take your old bumpers ( if there not really pitted and like trashed ) and give you like 200. off new ones. If interested I'll try to get the number for you. We used our bumper cores and traded them in and got front and back for like 300. That was pretty good. We got the bumpers for a 64 GTO.
Those are the 'Bumper Boyz' out of California. They have pretty good deals on their bumpers but you have to watch what you are getting from them.
Your old bumpers become their soon-to-be new bumpers. I have seen several of theirs that looked top-notch but I have seen several that have been in sad shape. You really have to look around and see what you can find/compare.
I really like these guys alot...<a href="http://www.ss396.com/" target="_blank">SS396</a>
Like Weimer stated, you have to watch out for what you get. If you have good cores (your bumpers) and they have minimal amounts of dents they can be straightened and rechromed. If it was wrapped around a tree at one time, that cannot be straightened. On my '62 my bumpers were replaced at on time. They look like new. When I pulled them off awhile back you can see where someone welded a rather large hole closed. It looks ratty from the back but from the front looks good. It works but I myself would rather have a core that hasn't been patched up.
