So i am in the process of swapping a v8 into my 92 s10 4X4, well the new transmission i got will not work with the 4X4 so i am removing it, i did some research and found that it is safe to remove the front differential and take apart the cv axles as long as you have the threaded piece in the wheel bearing, this is true right?

The engine will be removed within the next week or so, so i am going to remove the front differential while the engine is out

So what is the best way to go about removing the front differential, with the engine out? i would imagine start by removing the cv axles then unbolt the differential and lift it out? i have never removed cv axles before, could someone explain how it is done? i removed the bolts on one side at the part where the cv axle bolts to the differential but it wont budge, did i forget something?

First time doing this, and thank you in advance for any help

It's a 92 so I would guess earlier style, I don't recall how many bolts, where should i smack it? On the side right where they join together? And it is alright to remove all that right? As long as I leave the threaded shaft in the wheel bearing? How do the cv axles come apart?

I will give it a try, probably tomorrow, ill let you know how it goes

I was reading and a friend of mine mentioned that it is safe to remove as long as the shaft is still bolted into the wheel bearing, just figured I'd ask to see if anyone here has ever done that before
