Hey guys I'm about to put my engine on a stand and have done this before but it the bolts are stripping and don't want to mess up the bolt wholes what size diamiter bolts do I need I'm I kno there 9/16 and pretty sure course any info help I have done this before with them so I'm assuming I just need to grab some new bolts

The thread size for the transmission mounting flange on the SBC is 3/8-16.

Buy some new 3/8-16 bolts that will extend past the mounting boss on the stand by about 3/4". Use flat washers under the head of the bolts to adjust for less thread if the block holes aren't that deep. After you have found the magical combo of bolts and washers, keep them together in a plastic bag for your next build.

Ok so the head is 9/16 and the rod thickness is 3/8 and is 16 long course I'm ovioisly gonna use longer ones what I have usually done is use bigger bolts as washers so they don't pull thro on the stand

3/8" is the size of the threaded part of the bolt or nut. The number "16" is how many threads per inch there are on the fastener.

I did something similar to Techinspector - I used longer bolts and instead of washers, used nuts to take up the difference. Thread the long bolt into the block until it stops (finger tight), then used the nuts to tighten against the engine stand. My stand is a cheapie from HF. It has nuts welded to the frame to store the bolts. That way the bolts are always with the stand for the next time I need it. If yours doesn't have a place to store them, you could use the nuts to hold them in the flanges on the stand.

3/8 is the major diameter of the bolt. 16 is the threads per inch. I suspect that you mean you use bigger NUTS as washers, not bigger bolts and that's OK too.
For instance, you could use a 1/2-13 nut as a thick washer for a 3/8-16 bolt.

Great thanks and yes that's what I use I figure biger nuts is better then a lil washer and that's a good idea because mine dosent have a place to store anything but there's almost always something on it
