Totally depends on your intended use. Spacers can help or do nothing sometimes.

In general, a four-hole spacer (one for each barrel) is supposed to act like increasing the runner length which favors torque production down low. Open spacers increase the plenum volume which often helps higher RPM power.

In actual use, sometimes they provide 15 hp, other times they do zip.

how's that for "maybe , maybe not"

I will say one thing - it Can help keep your carb a little cooler if you get the "plastic" Phenolic resin spacer - it separates the heat of the intake from the carb, and on a hot day might help keep the fuel from vaporizing and giving you problems. . . . .
