So, set the timing, 12 degrees sounded best. It's a over 300-350 hp sbc 350, gen 1. Only problem is that we set everything while the car was in reverse. The SOB started in reverse! We didn't realize because the emergency brake held. When we went to rev it a bit the car jumped a bit and we were like holy s--t! To top it off the car's still on jack stands. So messed with linkage corrected the shifter stuff, now it won't start, backed off the idle rpm too. It just won't start, starter turns, engine turns, coughs a little, sounds like it's not getting fuel, but I can smell the darn gas in air. Any ideas on what we need to change to get this thing started again?

The FIRST thing you should be concerned with, IS a proper neutral safety switch installation or clutch over ride...you could have been killed!

Did you check the advance / retard on the dizzy? It may have slipped one way or another when the body was thrashing around..start at mid travel, have some one crank it and advance it if it won't start, retard it..IF it was correct before , you should find the spot pretty easy.
